Night Descends on Mountain -Hannah Skoonberg

"Night Descends on Mountain" is a dramatic abstract linocut print of the silhouette of a tree by Berkeley artist and printmaker Hannah Skoonberg. In this handmade print, Skoonberg has painstakingly carved this image into a block of linoleum using small tools. She then printed it in black ink onto a very thin Asian paper (see last photo that shows translucency of paper).

The print pictured is #33 out of an edition of 35. It is signed in the lower right corner.

This print is top is framed in a natural wood moulding with acrylic glazing and measures to 30" w x 43" h. Frame is included in price.

Hannah Skoonberg grew up in Georgia and studied printmaking at the University of Georgia. She received her MFA at the University of Tennessee. She currently teaches studio art and printmaking at the Santa Rosa Junior College.

Her work considers themes embedded in ideas of landscape and a feeling of place. Her most recent work has been focused on non-traditional landscapes such as the tangled thicket or the overgrown lawn. How does our understanding of the landscape change when it is not welcoming or a space that the viewer can easily enter?
