Surf Gems are one-of-one jewelry pieces sculpted from the waste product of surfboard production. Founder Abby Ahlgrim launched the first collection in 2020, combining her background in sustainability studies with her commitment to artistic expression. She developed a process to chisel colorful gems from Surf Rock, the slabs of petrified pigment often discarded by surfboard shops. Each gem is shaped by hand in her Morro Bay studio – just a few blocks away from the cold waters of California’s Central Coast.
