In fun, fresh, in-depth two-day oil painting workshop, you will create a number of still life paintings from life, as well as small landscape sketches working from photo references. This class will focus on the process/steps taken in order to move throughout an entire painting. Saturday will begin with a fun demonstration on how to begin a still-life painting led by artist, Samantha Buller. There will be a series of mouth-watering still-life stations with real fruit for you to choose from. You will paint a series of small still-life studies ranging from 40-60 minutes. Sunday will start with a demonstration on how to start a small landscape painting; focus will be on deliberate mark making and value structures. Then you will paint a series of small landscapes, ranging from 40-60 minutes each. You will receive coaching and personalized attention along the way.
About the Artist:
Samantha Buller is a much loved and collected oil painter based in Petaluma,California. She received a BFA from The Academy of Art University, San Francisco. Originally from the Bay Area, her work reflects the beautiful light and modernism that is found in northern California. Her love of color drives her work. She is inspired by work created by the late Wayne Thiebaud, especially for his paint application, attention to color and composition. She is also inspired by the work of Raimonds Straprans for his layering techniques. Her work has been featured in the Hall of Justice in downtown San Francisco, in businesses, several galleries, and has even had her work featured on a prime time television show. In 2013, Southwest Art Magazine named Buller as one of 2013's Young Artists to Watch.Â
